Relationship Between Nutrition And Weight Management
The relationship between nutrition and weight management is very significant as nutrition
is essential even when you are on a weight management program. Being obese is not desirable as it can lead to many
diseases such as diabetes and heart problems. Weight loss is necessary for diabetics and heart patients but not at
the cost of nutrition. A successful weight management plan puts you on the right track to health by curtailing your
food intake if you are overweight, and maintaining the correct nutritional balance if you are of normal weight.
Importance Of Nutrition
The cells and tissues of our body are constantly getting replaced by new cells and tissues. The formation of the
new ones is entirely dependent on the food that we eat. Moreover, the prime mover of our body is the energy that is
generated by the metabolism of the food that we eat. Obviously, the more nutritious the food, the greater will be
the amount of energy that will be generated and the faster will be the replacement of cells and tissues. If we go
on a weight loss program by sacrificing our food intake, we will generate less energy and lesser replacement of
tissues and cells. The weight management program should not curtail nutrition but it should try to achieve its
desired results with a balance of nutritious food and physical exercises. A proper balance between nutrition and
weight loss is essential.
The food that we eat is also responsible for the production of hormones, enzymes and energy. Different types of
foods produce different results such as energy which is produced by the intake of carbohydrates, body building
blocks which are produced by proteins and energy storage which is achieved by the consumption of fats. The body
needs all types of food inputs to maintain all its functions and if the nutrition inputs are not of the right type
and the right quantity, there is bound to be an imbalance leading to illnesses such as high blood pressure,
diabetes, strokes, heart attacks and even cancer. Nutrition and weight management are interlinked as proper weight
loss can only be achieved if the wrong type of food is avoided and the right type and quantity of food is taken.
Eating habits need to be modified if you want to achieve appropriate weight loss. If the wrong type of food is
eaten or if you eat food in excess of the correct quantity, the result will be food that is not properly digested
in the body and converted into harmful poisonous toxins.
Watch The Sugar
Nutrition and weight management also depend upon the amount of each type of food that we eat. For example, sugar or
carbohydrates are necessary for producing energy in the body but if taken in excess, they can upset the entire
metabolism process and the functions of the liver and other body organs. Insulin is produced in the pancreas in
order to metabolize the sugar and produce energy from its combustion. When we eat lots of sugar rich products, we
don’t realize that most other things that we eat also have some amount of carbohydrates. The pancreas will have to
work overtime to produce enough insulin to tackle the entire amount of carbohydrates that we have taken. This is
not desirable and as such our diet should mainly have natural sources of sugar like beans, potatoes, fruits and
wheat. The sugar from these sources gets released slowly and allows the pancreas to process it at ease.
Keeping these nutrition facts in mind, we can design the ideal weight management program to follow.
